As a receiving clerk at our employee-owned lumberyard and hardware store, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely receipt of goods. You will be responsible for verifying and inspecting incoming shipments, updating and maintaining accurate inventory records, and communicating with suppliers and other departments within the company.

This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.

POSITION: Receiving Clerk

EMPLOYMENT WAGES AND BENEFITS:

  • Starting wage will range from $18 hr. – $21 hr. DOE.
  • Benefits include Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance.
  • ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program) benefits after approx. 2 years.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Store Manager

BASIC FUNCTION:  Responsible for checking incoming merchandise against packing slips to identify shortages, damaged goods, backorders and processing special orders.  He or she must make sure the receiving area and check in area are neat, clean and orderly.  This employee must advise the Inventory Specialist of any incoming merchandise cost changes, prepare packages for mailing and acquire and coordinate RMA’s (return merchandise authorizations).  The receiving clerk must perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to avoid adverse impact upon the level of service to customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise assistant(s) as provided by Retail Sales Manager.
  • Work cooperatively with the Inventory Specialist and Retail Sales Manager.
  • Communicate with management, employees, and delivery personnel.
  • Check incoming merchandise against packing slips or orders to spot shortages, damaged goods, backorders, etc.
  • Visually verify the contents of shipments.
  • Advise your supervisor and accounting office of shortages, damages, backorders, etc.
  • Advise the Inventory Specialist of any incoming merchandise cost changes.
  • Move merchandise from receiving area to the appropriate staging area.
  • Follow all safety precautions when loading and unloading freight.
  • Handle incoming DIB E-commerce special orders.
  • Maintains an organized, clean workspace.
  • Be alert for sales opportunities.
  • Track materials going back to vendors, ensuring they are picked up in a timely manner.
  • Read and comprehend written and printed materials.
  • Must use basic math skills to verify orders, invoices, shipping, and packing documents.
  • Must safely operate loading, unloading, and transferring equipment (forklifts, pushcarts, computers, etc.).
  • Utilize best practices of the Advanced Receiving System.
  • Includes all responsibilities of Retail Sales
  • Attends and participates in all company-sponsored training programs as required.
  • Promotes team concept.
  • Adheres to company dress code policy.
  • Assist with any other duties as required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

 EXPERIENCE: Two to three years of receiving experience and substantial background in hardware sales.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to effectively analyze and prioritize daily job demands.
  • Ability to do basic math, read instructions, and complete forms legibly.
  • Communicate with customers, other employees, and supervisors using verbal and written skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting techniques.
  • Must understand and effectively utilize all computer receiving and inventory maintenance programs.
  • Type a minimum of 25 WPM.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work with mechanical and power equipment on a daily basis.
  • Moderate noise level.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • 90% of the time working inside in controlled temperature conditions.
  • 10% of the time working outside in various weather conditions.
