How the Paint Shortage Could Affect Your Next Paint Project

There have certainly been no shortages on well, shortages. Recently and unfortunately, this includes a nationwide paints & coatings scarcity. If you aren’t up to date, there has been a snowball of factors. An unusual freeze in Texas, ongoing supply chain issues, and demand increases have fueled a perfect storm of disruptions and high demands.

We are doing the absolute best we can so that you, our customers and friends, are not feeling the brunt of this. However, it’s also crucial for you to stay informed, and with that being said, expect paint supplies to be relatively scarce and costly for the foreseeable future.

I know that all sounds like a bummer, but if anything, this pandemic has taught our stores to pivot, pivot, and pivot some more.

We’ve become quite adept and creative problem-solvers over here. After taking inventory of our store and doing a bit of forecasting with our suppliers, we can give you a general idea of what colors are more readily available and easier to find.

Paint bases for mid and dark tones are the most available currently, so it may be in your best interest to start thinking about some different options for color schemes if you’re hoping to paint soon.

Luckily, we’ve noticed that a return to color in the home has been trending again, so even if it’s a little out of your comfort zone, it’s still an excellent option to explore.

Below in the slide show are some examples of just how versatile mid and dark tones can be, especially when incorporating different design elements in the space as well:

This is by no means a fixed rule. We will do the absolute best we can to make you the color you want. This is just something to think about as you plan your space- maybe poke around on Pinterest and design blogs (We recommend Maria Killam’s blog– she is a color master) and who knows- you may surprise yourself!

Another avenue to explore is a creative collaboration with our trained paint specialists.

Say, you bring in a palette or a single color for your home. The base needed to attain the color chosen may not be available, but perhaps we tinker a bit and find a color that’s comparable, but marginally different in tint or shade. This path would be especially beneficial for whole-house remodels because you’ll still be attaining the overall effect of your chosen palette.

Below, for instance, color, Crystal Bay (108A), (Circled in Red), uses a bright white base, which is currently difficult to stock. Reformulating this particular color to a different base delineates too far for comfort from the original color.

However, if we choose the next level in saturation, which is Echo Blue (108B), (Circled in Green), this color can be formulated to work in an accessible base, and it’s the sibling to our original chosen color.

With all that being said, thank you for your support and patience as we navigate this supply chain issue together. Hopefully by summer, we will start to see some nationwide inventory stabilization.
